I started to take Cayenne pepper as a supplement recently. I was in the vitamin aisle at Whole Foods and thought I’d give it a try and see what happens. I had never heard of people taking pepper as a supplement before.

What I soon discovered is that Cayenne pepper, when taken with a meal, makes me feel more focused and energetic, yet calm. It reminds me a little bit of one of the few positive things about tobacco, but without any of the harm.

I looked up some stuff about Cayenne pepper and what it does for your health and landed on a few good sites with great info, but came across this gem.   It is the summary of the report: Origins and evolution of the Western diet: health implications for the 21st Century from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition from February of 2005.

In the United States and most Western countries, diet-related chronic diseases represent the single largest cause of morbidity and mortality. These diseases are epidemic in contemporary Westernized populations and typically afflict 50–65% of the adult population, yet they are rare or nonexistent in hunter-gatherers and other less Westernized people.

Although both scientists and lay people alike may frequently identify a single dietary element as the cause of chronic disease (eg, saturated fat causes heart disease and salt causes high blood pressure), evidence gleaned over the past 3 decades now indicates that virtually all so-called diseases of civilization have multifactorial dietary elements that underlie their etiology, along with other environmental agents and genetic susceptibility.

Coronary heart disease, for instance, does not arise simply from excessive saturated fat in the diet but rather from a complex interaction of multiple nutritional factors directly linked to the excessive consumption of novel Neolithic and Industrial era foods (dairy products, cereals, refined cereals, refined sugars, refined vegetable oils, fatty meats, salt, and combinations of these foods).

These foods, in turn, adversely influence proximate nutritional factors, which universally underlie or exacerbate virtually all chronic diseases of civilization: 1) glycemic load, 2) fatty acid composition, 3) macronutrient composition, 4) micronutrient density, 5) acid-base balance, 6) sodium-potassium ratio, and 7) fiber content.

However, the ultimate factor underlying diseases of civilization is the collision of our ancient genome with the new conditions of life in affluent nations, including the nutritional qualities of recently introduced foods.

Reading this makes me want to eat a salad.

The Concept of Individuality

by Dr Benard Etta

The concept of individuality states: “Every individual is born and endowed with a unique mind quality and content capable of producing independently from whatever humanity has seen”.

No two individuals are the same in their mind quality and content. Every individual is designed to develop his or her independent mind to the level of individualistic expressions. At the level of individuality, an individual becomes an independent thinker and producer. One who can express ideas, inventions, innovations, creations and discoveries no individual has ever exhibited.

Individuality in terms of independent creativity and productivity is the true identity of an individual. Each individual was to be known and identified by the expression of his/her individuality. Thus, despite the 6.2 billion people in the world, every one has his placement based on individuality.

Competition and strife between individuals exist as evidence of the ignorance of the concept of individuality. There is no competition at the level of individuality. Competition exists when men try to be like others, instead of developing their individuality and creating their own worlds.

By the expression of one’s mind quality and content, an individual can express ideas which can speak for him throughout successive generations. Names like Henry Ford, Isaac Newton, Galileo Galileo, John Gutenberg, Albert Einstein etc are remembered today because of the expression of their individualities in their different domains and times.

Individuality is a security against competition and inferiority. It is one’s trade mark. It is equally one’s leadership identity. The concept of individuality stems from the understanding that “Every individual is created unique to contribute independently from what ever humanity has seen”. 20 million people in a society are 20 million independent minds for unique and quality expressions.

If this concept is understood and pursued, there will be no society lagging behind in development. It is unfortunate that many living today are unable to express their individuality because of ignorance and the underdevelopment of their minds, thus, contributing nothing to the enhancement of their societies and humanity.

NB: Individuality is the ultimate measure of one’s mental development. At this level, one’s uniqueness is fully expressed.

Products of individuality

Individuality is the point of one’s independence. When one’s individuality is fully developed such an individual becomes an independent thinker and producer.

Independent Thinkers

Independent thinkers are individuals who think ahead of their societies and see ahead of their times. They are custodians of new ideas, insights, revelations, creations, inventions, innovations and discoveries needed both in their time and in the future.

The ideas of independent thinkers live longer than them.

Independent thinkers think independently from both societal and religious positions. In fact, they are providers of new directions for their generation. They are pioneers, pathfinders, road makers, trailblazers, and pacesetters.

With independent thinkers, a nation or society is constantly being invaded with new ideas and revelations which will take such a society or nation beyond her present breakthroughs.

Independent thinkers are needed when a nation or generation is plagued with stagnation and misdirection. They come to move their societies forward. Independent thinkers operate as reformers and revolutionaries. Their reformatory and revolutionary ideas provide knowledge for the next phase of things in their generation.

Independent thinkers are pioneers of new eras of civilizations within their nation and generation. They can alter the political, economic, social, religious and educational climate of a nation for the best.

For an individual to be a positive independent thinker, such must experience mind empowerment through illumination and regeneration.

Independent Producers

Independent producers are individuals whose creative works are incomparable with none other. They are providers of new inventions, discoveries and creations.

Throughout the history of human civilization, societies have developed through the immense contribution of independent producers. The industrial revolution in history owed its existence to the contribution of independent producers. The American and European societies have all evolved and emerged as world powers thanks to independent producers.

Independent producers are needed in every century to provide new amenities needed for the time. Their products replace old inventions.

The 21st century with its numerous challenges, demands for ‘hyper resourceful technocrats’, independent producers who will turn the tides of history and change the course of human civilization by their inventions. This can only be possible by the progress in mental development.

Post 9/11 GI Bill rocks and you probably automatically qualify for it!!!

All in-state tuition PAID. E-5 BAH given to you based on your zip code! Out-of-pocket expenses drastically reduced!

Verify your DD2-14 with a VA education counselor at the university you would like to attend to see if you qualify. Chances are you will!

This has huge potential. FDR instituted the original GI bill in the 40’s and the ensuing advancement of veterans into the workforce lifted American productivity to its greatest heights.

Post-recessionary 2010 approaches- let’s hope for something similar, but better :)

Now get out there and step up your game.

So much of our lives we are around others under a wide range of circumstances and in different environments. Learning how to function socially is an important part of our development as human beings, but not everyone is playing fair or nice.

For better or worse we encounter a variety of people and personalities during our daily lives. How we communicate and the outcomes of our interactions can help us to grow- or shrink. Because we obviously want to grow, it’s important to start recognizing the things that make us feel good and expand, and to also recognize the things that make us want to crawl inside ourselves and get away.

Communication always has a purpose, whether the purpose is consciously known or unknown. Understanding the why’s and the how’s of communicating will deepen our understanding of our everyday reality.

On a certain level, we are made to influence each others’ thoughts and actions. We’re made to give and take instructions, guidance, and leadership. We can work excellently alone and work excellently as a team, as we are interconnected beings. We are designed and inclined to listen to others around us. For instance if someone falls down and yells “help” we almost instinctively rush to give care to that person even without thinking about it.

This is precisely the thing that leaves us wide open to those who intend to control us or do us harm. Examples of the usual suspects: the guy on the street begging for money, but whose car is parked down the road. The dishonest salesman who is selling a piece-of-junk product or rip-off service. The jerk egotist who tries to control all the people around him or her or attack those whom they find threatening.

When we encounter those who either are or seem intent to cause us harm, we have to remain focused on ourselves, our universal right to be free from the manipulation of others, and the outcome which we expect to receive.

Assertiveness is a valuable skill and a state of being and doing. One of the first steps of assertive behavior is learning to disagree and to say “no”. Fortunately, assertiveness can be learned and achieved by everyone. It all starts with one single assertive behavior and builds from that. The goal is to work on having a winning record.

Focus and concentration enable us to remain strong and composed during stressful events, in charge of our actions and reactions. It empowers us to be calm, to use the more advanced areas of our brains, and to find a solution in the moment. Meditation, exercise, and deep breathing are a just a few examples of things we can do to improve concentration.

Self-love. We have to love ourselves more than the person who wishes to take advantage of us. We have to love what we stand for. We have to love life itself.

Finally we must know that there is no loss. We live, we learn, we grow. We succeed.

It’s a great time to be alive if you are a musician, and a music lover too.

Gone are the old ways and the old paradigm of major record labels, major retailers, and major radio stations controlling the music and the money.  Here are the new ways of the modern musician: affordable home studios, self-produced and managed artists, more creative freedom, and unlimited distribution via the internet.

The internet changed the music business overnight with the concept of file sharing and downloading.  With the advent of iTunes and a legal way of downloading music a la carte, consumers were immediately given more choice and value, and artists were given their first glimpse at financial freedom.

These days with companies like Tunecore an artist can create their own CD and pay a low flat fee to get their CD on iTunes and receive 100% of the profits from sales.  This is excellent for musicians.  It motivates musicians to be prolific and to produce works regularly, and encourages musicians to continue to work on their music to improve it as well, as with the purchaser’s recently acquired power to download individual songs artists can now no longer afford to release an album with only one or two good songs.  This is good for everyone!

With social media like Twitter and Facebook musicians can now create their own fan base, go out into the virtual world and search for like-minded people who would most likely fall into their listening demographic.  Then musicians can work on forging a good relationship with their new contacts and start giving away promotional music and post updates to their album releases.

The keys to the kingdom are dangling out in front of the aspiring independent musician.  It’s time to grab them and drive!

It’s a jungle metaphor with a truth as old as time. In the words of Ric Flair, “If you want to be the man, you’ve got to beat the man!”

A good rapper should always want to continually get better at what he or she does, just as people in any profession who are serious about advancing to the next level. Here’s an easy way to do that.

“If I can see it, then I can do it. If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it.”

I love R. Kelley’s smash hit “I believe I can fly”. That song, besides being a very inspirational and majestic work of music, has an excellent formula for achieving more in our lives.

LeBron James grew up watching Michael Jordan, studying his every move and emotion on the court, perhaps LeBron imagined himself performing the very same moves. It serves us well to find mentors or people whom we can look up to.

Pick three of your favorite rappers and notice what are the best qualities of their raps. Notice the details of what makes their music compelling. Then emulate it in your own way. It’s like taking something good, and remixing it and maybe even making it better.

An unrelated technique but still very important is practice. It’s a great idea to pick out 15 of your favorite songs, make a CD out of it and then rap/sing along, but seriously like you are the one performing.

Also while it’s great to have strengths, it’s best to work on weaknesses. An obvious weakness takes away from an overall great performance, however a weakness that is improved upon can blend in with the overall performance and not be an issue. Best to find the holes in your armor as soon as possible. Once you do, then focus on the things you can do to improve them.
